In short, “legacy giving” allows you to convey your values through a future gift to Tuleyome and thereby support your community and the projects and programs you care about. Just remember Tuleyome in your will or estate planning efforts.


Legacy gifts can come from anyone, not just the wealthy. Gifts large and small are important. They can stand as a meaningful representation of your environmental and conservationist ethic, and can help to strengthen Tuleyome’s impact on your local communities by supporting our projects and programs well into the future.


Legacy gifts can be in the form of cash, appreciated securities (stocks, bonds, mutual funds), real estate, tangible personal property (such as collections of value, works of art, jewelry, antiques, rare books, etc.), trust accounts, IRAs, and life insurance policies.


Here are some examples of your legacy giving in action:


  • Flexible funding – your gift allows the directors of Tuleyome to advance priorities or seize special opportunities as they arise.
  • Funding to provide low-cost and no-cost outings and nature-based opportunities for members of the public.
  • Funding for capital programs to improve equipment, purchase vehicles, and purchase key properties in the region that need protection or can be used for educational purposes.

Always make sure your bequest is reviewed by someone who specializes in estates and trusts to ensure that the language used in the bequest is adequate under the law. Here are some examples:


Bequests (your action of bequeathing something to Tuleyome) can be either general or specific.


General: “I give, devise, and bequeath to Tuleyome, 622 Main Street, Woodland, CA 95695, the sum of $___ (or a description of the asset) for the benefit of Tuleyome and its general purposes…”


Specific: “I give, devise, and bequeath to Tuleyome, 622 Main Street, Woodland, CA 95695, the sum of $___ (or a description of the asset) for the benefit of Tuleyome to be used for the following purpose (describe the purpose. Examples: acquisition of real estate; restoring habitat; building and maintaining trails; educational outings for the public, etc.)…”


You can also make a “residuary bequest” to Tuleyome after you’ve made provisions for others under your will.


Residuary: “…All the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate, both real and personal, I give to Tuleyome, 607 North Street, Woodland, CA 95695, for its general purposes…”


Tuleyome is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit conservation organization.
