Habitat Protection in the Berryessa Snow Mountain Region

***Please note that Highway 16 is closed from Rumsey to Highway 20 due to rock slides. Please take I-5 to Highway 20.

Tuleyome is hosting an educational opportunity for those wanting more information about wildlife in and around the Berryessa Snow Mountain National Monument. Bureau of Land Management staff will be on hand to discuss the many plants and animals that live in the area. This is also an opportunity to get a better understanding of how a “national monument designation” affects habitat protection and restoration.

The Redbud Trail winds through an open meadow then climbs about 500 feet through oak grasslands to the top of a ridge overlooking Cache Creek. The trail continues off the ridge for another mile to Baton Flat/Cache Creek. The hike to Cache Creek is 2.5 miles, one-way. The round-trip distance is 5 miles with about 500 feet of climbing, both ways. This is a moderate hike.

The event is expected to last about 4 hours – participants should be prepared for a hike with water, snacks and lunch. This event has been made possible through a grant from the National Environmental Education Foundation.
