Monumental Piñatas: “Any Bird”, 2-Day Workshop
Monumental Piñatas: “Any Bird”.
In partnership with Yolo County Housing, Tuleyome presents its series of “Monumental Piñatas” workshops!
Piñata guru Mary K. Hanson will lead participants on a 2-day workshop (Sunday July 8th, and Saturday July 14th) to take you through the process of creating and decorating your own handmade bird piñata. All of the piñatas in this series are based on plants, animals and landscapes found in the Berryessa Snow Mountain National Monument region.
The piñatas created in these workshop are tabletop versions (not meant to hang up), and they employ “secret openings” that allow you to fill and empty them without having to smash them open. In this workshop, you can create a bird of any species you like. Our sample is of a Western Bluebird.
ADULTS ONLY (21 or over). We will be serving soft drinks and snacks for participants.
CLASSES ARE LIMITED TO 6 PARTICIPANTS, SO SIGN UP FAST TO RESERVE YOUR SPOT!
All proceeds from ticket sales will go to support Tuleyome’s Certified California Naturalist program, which teaches members of the public to become certified as naturalists in California.

Instructor: Mary K. Hanson, Certified California Naturalist, author and artist.
HOW THE WORKSHOPS WILL UNFOLD:
On Day One (Sunday, July 8th), at the Tuleyome office: Mary will supply you with the materials and know-how to create a piñata based on your chosen subject. We’ll be starting “from the balloons” up, constructing our forms and covering them with their first layer of papier-mâché. Then you’ll take your forms home with you, along with the materials you’ll need for the second appliance of the papier-mâché.
On Your Own: During the week between the classes, let your piñata form dry completely, then add a second layer of papier-mâché early enough in the week so that it’s dry by Day Two (August 11th).
On Day Two (Saturday, July 14th) at the Yolo County Housing meeting room: Bring your dry piñata form back with you, and Mary will show you the different techniques you can use to complete it. Tuleyome will supply the tissue paper, construction paper, glue, poster board, and embellishments needed.
Tuleyome will also supply general snacks and soft drinks at the classes, but you are welcome to bring along your own lunch if you’d like to.
Note: All participants agree to abide by the terms and conditions of Tuleyome’s waiver of liability which can be seen and downloaded HERE. All participants also understand that photographs will be taken at the event. If you do not wish to be photographed, you must tell the photographer and avoid the cameras’ line of sight.
When buying a ticket through Eventbrite, service fees will be added making your total $81.24. If you’d like to avoid the service fees, you can send a check for $75 (payable to “Tuleyome”) directly to Tuleyome, 607 North Street, Woodland, CA 95695.
